Key Points for Planners

  • Ngorongoro Crater is a safari highlight
  • Hot air balloon trip is an unforgettable addition
  • Tanzania offers bush and beach experiences within the same country

Tanzania

Tanzania is an East African safari powerhouse, not least because it’s home to one of the greatest of all wilderness events: the annual Great Wildebeest Migration. Each year, more than two million wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles, move through the Serengeti in search of greener pastures. It’s a spectacular sight and one that’s completely unique to Tanzania.

Key Locations

  • Mount Kilimanjaro
  • Kilimanjaro National Park
  • Ngorongoro Crater
  • Serengeti National Park
  • Tarangire National Park
While the Serengeti’s endless sea of grass offers scope for the grandest of safari ambitions to be played out, it’s by no means the only wildlife-viewing hotspot in the country. The “lost world” of Ngorongoro Crater offers an incredible descent into an extinct volcano, while Tarangire National Park’s iconic baobab and umbrella thorn acacia trees make the perfect backdrop for the park’s residents-lions, leopards, elands, baboons, buffalo, and the largest population of elephants in Tanzania.
Then there’s Mount Kilimanjaro. The tallest freestanding mountain in the world, Kilimanjaro presides over the plains of northern Tanzania, beckoning adventurous travellers to explore the rainforests, heathered moors, lava formations, and glaciers within its five distinct temperate zones. Tanzania offers travellers the chance to combine both bush and beach experiences without the need for additional ink in their passports:
the islands of Zanzibar and Pemba offer fascinating history, beach time, and excellent diving. This is a country that does nothing by halves, whether it’s the epic scale of its wild places, the standards of its luxury safari lodges, or the quality of the wildlife experiences. Factor in Indian Ocean Islands, too, and it’s clear that Tanzania safaris can be all things to all people.
